Emerson Valley School

Music

The aim of music teaching in our school is to give all children the opportunity to take part in music making as an enriching and enjoyable experience.  The school has a specialist music room with a good range of tuned and un-tunes percussion instruments which the children use to accompany singing as well as for their own compositions.

The Milton Keynes Music Service supports the school by offering whole class wider opportunity and groups for Years 4 and 4.  Children in Year 3 currently learn the recorder and Dalcroze, which combines music and dance.  Year 4 greatly enjoy taking part in African drumming and guitar tuition.  In addition to this we offer children the opportunity to learn an instrument within small groups.

Children who receive instrumental tuition are invited to join our thriving school orchestra.  We also have an enthusiastic choir and we are proud of our music performances, which are always well attended.

All children have opportunities to share in the joy of music making in the celebrations of the school year.  In particular we hold an annual music festival at which a Young Musician of the Year is selected.  There is also a wealth of possibilities for children to take part in Milton Keynes Music Service events, across the city.
