Emerson Valley School

History and Geography

Children develop the skills necessary for historical enquiry.  A range of sources are used books, internet, videos, CD Roms, census material, newspapers and photographic evidence.

To bring history to life role play, enactment days, visits to historical sites and visiting speakers are encouraged and much enjoyed by the children.

Through an investigative approach our children learn how to develop a knowledge of their immediate environment, and then compare and contrast this locality to other localities in the UK and the wider world.

Roman Day Roman Day

To this end they use maps, books, the internet, CD Roms and photographs.  Pupils are expected to make observations, explain reasons for physical and human features and recognise changes in the environment.

Educational visits are encouraged to bring first hand experiences alive.
