We believe that art should stimulate children’s imaginations and enable them to be creative through a range of visual, tactile and sensory experiences, thus providing them with a unique way of responding to the world.
Good practice is demonstrated by children being actively involved in the use of a wide range of materials enabling them to look at the visual elements including colour, form, texture and pattern. Children are encouraged to communicate what they see, feel and think; making valued judgments and aesthetic and practical decisions.
Extra curricular activities include after school clubs where the children have the chance to use a variety of resources and create artwork which is different to that offered during the usual art curriculum.
During our weekly Wednesday Workshop sessions, children are able to take part in a number of different art and craft activities over four week courses, which again are extra to the curriculum which is covered during Art lessons.
Children’s achievements are celebrated in a number of appealing displays around school and there are several opportunities during the school year to take part in competitions which are themed around art.
During our annual Creativity Week, parents, careers and friends are invited to join in the fun and share their expertise or enjoyment of art, craft, dance or drama by helping in class or running a small group or workshop. We have visiting artists who teach us new skills or help us develop our abilities. This extra-curricular week allows all children to develop their creativity through a great number of different opportunities.
