Emerson Valley School

Educational Welfare

The Governors have designated Emerson Valley School, and its grounds, a no smoking environment. All staff have an advanced CRB ( police ) check.  A comprehensive health and safety policy has been adopted by the Governors seeking to create a safe and secure environment for our children.

Access to the school should be through the front doors. All visitors are asked to report to Reception and sign in and out for the security of our children.  Fire evacuation procedures are displayed.

Hospital / Clinic / Dentist Appointments

Please let us know if you need to take your child out of school for a medical appointment. Children who are leaving during the school day for an appointment must, for their own safety, be accompanied by an adult.  Please ensure your child is signed in and out at Reception.

If your child has a particular health problem please make sure we know so we can support your child appropriately.  We draw up a Health Care Plan for individual children where this is necessary.

Illness in School

Designated staff have 'First Aid in School' qualifications and treat children for minor bumps and bruises.  Staff are Epipen trained and we update training regularly.  If we have any concerns, or in an emergency, we contact parents as soon as possible. It is most important we have up-to-date contact numbers for parents.

Medicines

School policy does not allow staff to administer medicines, however, parents may leave prescribed medicines in reception and complete a pink form.  Children then administer their own medicines.  Children should not have any un-prescribed medicines or remedies in school.  Children manage their own asthma inhalers.
