Emerson Valley School

Communication

We send a weekly newsletter home called Inform to provide regular contact between home and school. Spare copies of these, are kept in the reception area at school and can be downloaded here from our website.

Close liaison with parents is encouraged by staff, and meetings can be arranged at any time during the school year. Parents are invited to a ten minute appointment with the class teacher twice a year in the autumn and spring terms. If a longer appointment is needed then this can be arranged at a time to suit all concerned.  A comprehensive Annual Report is sent home towards the end of the summer term.

The Parent Teacher Association is called Friends of Emerson School and they hold various social and fund-raising events. We are very grateful for the tremendous contribution, socially and financially, made by parents to the Association. All parents are automatically members of the Association.

Teachers greatly value the help they receive from volunteer parents who spend an hour or two of their free time in school. During these times parents help with activities such as reading, cooking, art, craft, school visits, sport and many others. Offers of such help are always appreciated.

Schools

Our first feeder school  Merebrook First School opened in September 1999 and serves Furzton. Our second feeder school, Howe Park opened in September 2001 and servers Emerson Valley. We are working in close harmony and enjoying a good partnership with both of our first schools.

We have also developed close links with our local secondary school  Shenley Brook End School which opened in September 1997. Admissions to the secondary school are made in accordance with the LEA's published criteria which are based mainly on proximity to the school. As the majority of the school children attending Emerson Valley School live in the area around the school, most transfer to Shenley Brook End School. Parents need to be aware that admission to Shenley Brook End School is dependent on their post code.

In order to assist with the transfer of children to Secondary School, Year 6 children are given the opportunity to visit their school for a whole day towards the end of the summer term. Teaching staff from Secondary Schools visit us to meet the children and some also teach a lesson whilst they're here.

Staff from both schools meet regularly in the summer term to exchange information about the children transferring and also catch up on news of previous children.
