The School Council is a very important part of the life of the school as we believe that the child’s voice is an important instrument in the smooth running of our school. At the start of each academic year pupils in each class vote by secret ballot for a boy and a girl to represent their class.
Classes hold Class Meetings each fortnight to discuss ideas by which our school could be improved or to discuss issues of concern to them. The elected representatives meet as a School Council on the other week. During these meetings ideas and suggestions are discussed and results taken back to classes.
The School Council is run entirely by the children and the elected Chairperson and Secretary are responsible for setting the agenda and typing up the minutes. The link teacher is always present to oversee the running of the Council and help with ideas and suggestions.
The School Council have been responsible for making children aware of The Food Bank at Oldbrook and how important it is to think about others less fortunate than ourselves. They organized a non uniform day where pupils brought in food. This was then taken by some members of the Council to The Food Bank. The Council are also trying to raise money to purchase new playtime equipment and have held a film afternoon to do this. They have many ideas for improving our school over this academic year so watch this space!
