Emerson Valley School

After School Clubs and ‘Wednesday Activities’

Throughout the school, our children have opportunities to participate in a wide range of extra activities. These vary seasonally, but our aim is to provide a range of pursuits; sporting, dramatic, artistic, creative, etc.

Teachers run a wide range of clubs, which take place after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and also within school time during some lunchtimes. These clubs run over 8 weeks in each term.

We are very grateful to our teaching staff who give up their time to ensure we are able to offer a full range of clubs. We aim to ensure that all children get access to a club of their choice during the year. However, it is not always possible for all children to attend clubs every term as the nature of many of the activities limits the size of the groups to smaller numbers than those of a normal class size.

All children participate in a further range of activities on Wednesday afternoons. These activities take place during school time. Our aim for these sessions is for the children to experience a range of activities, some of which they may not have had a chance to do before, e.g. card making, skipping, drama, cooking. The children do these activities for 4 weeks, and then move on to a different one.

We have a thriving orchestra, which meets every Thursday after school, and a stunning choir, which meets during a lunchtime. Children are invited to join these groups.

Sporting groups, like the cross country, football and netball teams, also meet during lunchtimes to practice and train for competitive events in the sporting calendar.
