At Emerson Valley ICT is a great strength and we are always aiming to expand the children’s knowledge and motivate and enthuse them through the use of ICT.
We have a well developed ICT suite which contains computers networked to the internet, as well as 2 mobile collections of laptops used across the school to support the teaching in a wide range of lessons. These laptops are a huge hit with the children and are a vital tool in enriching and broadening the children’s learning in a vast array of subjects. This also includes various clubs and workshops which use these laptops to create some simply stunning work
Here is what some of the children have to say:
- George (Y3): I like to use the laptops in Numeracy to learn about time.
- Lewis (Y4): I like making PowerPoints on the laptops and using the internet for research.
- Josephine (Y4): You learn more using the laptop to research in History. They are fantastic.
- Callum (Y6): They have really cool graphics and things to do. We use them for ICT and art. I enjoy every lesson when I get to use them.
- Harriett (Y6): The laptops have really cool software and we can do arty things, Literacy and other fun stuff.
Each classroom is equipped with a projector and a laptop in order to enrich and extend the children’s learning.
The children work with computers across the school in both specific ICT skill lessons and in conjunction with other subjects. They learn to handle computers, software and the internet independently. This enables them to receive and interpret information, solve problems, make decisions, word process and develop drawing and graphic skills.
We operate a walled garden with the internet and its use is carefully monitored. Parents do however have the option to request their children do not use it.
