Non-Uniform Day

PeopleThe School Council have decided to have a non-uniform day on Friday 9th May.  This event is taking place in order to help the Food Bank.

Every Tuesday and Thursday people go to the Food Bank to collect a certain amount of food for their families.  There will be an assembly led by the School Council on Wednesday to tell the children more about the Food Bank.

Instead of bringing in money for non-school uniform day we would like children to bring in non-perishable food.  Thank you on behalf of the School Council.

Bags To School Day

A BagPlease save us your unwanted items.

On Monday 19th May each child will be bringing home a bag to be filled with old clothes, bedding, belts and shoes.

Parents can then bring the filled bag back to the school on Monday 9th June from 3.00pm onwards, when a van will be in the car park to collect them.

The school is given money according to the tonnage collected.  This is a wonderful fund raiser, but no filled bags into school please!

Creativity Week

A GuitarMany children relish the opportunity to try different activities which cannot be offered as part of the ‘normal’ school timetable. Following last year’s success we are looking forward to being creative once again.  The event will be run from Monday 9th June to Friday 13th June.

We have invited a number of local artists from Artworks-MK but we would like to invite any parents, family members or friends who are willing to share their expertise or enthusiasm in the area of art, craft, dance, music or drama to join us.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Small group knitting lessons
  • Cross stitch
  • Instrument playing
  • Group dance sessions
  • Mime
  • Crochet
  • Cooking
  • Painting

The possibilities are endless.  We would also be delighted if any parents or friends could show any art which they have produced themselves to let children know that it’s not just ‘artists’ who create art.  We will of course provide resources for helpers to use with the children.

If you are at all able to offer any help, support or resources for any part of this special week, please let us know as soon as possible.

Year 3 Olympic Games

During the morning of Thursday 3rd April 2008, Year Three held their very first Olympic games  - and it was a huge success.

Greek Day Greek Day

The children wrote a prayer to Zeus asking him for help in the events, took part in javelin, discus, marathon running, standing jump and sprint activities, had a Greek feast (lots of fruit and vegetables) and then had an awards ceremony.

During the awards ceremony the children all wore their leaf crowns and were given a certificate. They learnt lots about the Ancient Greek Olympic Games and had a fun morning.

We are all now looking forward to watching the 2008 Olympic Games at Beijing.  Click read more to view some photos of the day.

Emerson Valley Quiz Night

A Question MarkOn Friday the Friends of Emerson Valley hosted a quiz night.  Teams included 'The Grumpy Bear Bandits' and 'The Hair Bear Bunch'.

The first round was name the cartoon and it was surprising how many the adults got right!  After four rounds we had a fish and chip supper.  The next four rounds included aerial views of famous landmarks and matching baby photos to staff members - not as easy as it sounds!

The 'Hair Bear Bunch' won and got a tin of celebrations as a prize.  We really enjoyed the quiz night and hope there is another one soon.

By Harriet and Marie-Ann 5CU

The quiz night was amazing.  There were eight teams such as 'Smigin', 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' (Year 6 teachers) and the 'Eggheads' (Year 5 teachers and Mrs Brown).

There were 8 rounds including who are the cartoon characters, sport, what is the television show.  There were prizes for the winning team and the losing team got wooden spoons.

Art Gallery at EVS

A Camera And PhotoAt Emerson Valley, we like to encourage creativity in all areas of children’s lives. It allows children to express themselves in many different ways.

Art and design play an important role in our school so we would like to invite children to share any artwork which they have produced in their own time and are particularly proud of.

There is a new art gallery corridor by the ICT suite, which we are hoping to soon have filled with children’s achievements. The display will be changed regularly and any art work to be included should be given to Miss Robertson.

Some of the artwork will also be made available here on our school website.

School Results

A ThumbOver the last few years Emerson Valley School has made steady progress in our Key Stage 2 SATS results.  We are particularly proud of this years SATS results which are shown below.

As you can see we achieved well above Milton Keynes averages in all subjects and at or above the national levels.

We think our results are due to a great teaching staff and a nurturing learning environment which is provided here at Emerson Valley.

The school team is particularly pleased with the value added our year 6 children achieved.

Our commitment to school improvement is shown by our restructuring of the schools management team in order to allow an even greater focus on developing teaching and learning within the school.
